In a 2016 survey in the U.S. it showed that 72 percent of people think coconut oil is healthy. Today, there are over 1,500 studies proving the health benefits of coconut oil. Here are 10 ways that people are using it; from home remedies, to beauty treatments, and more.

1. Eye Wrinkles

To help fight pre-mature aging you can gently dab a touch of coconut oil around the eyes. Alternatively Pure Fiji’s Anti-Wrinkle Eye Crème also contains coconut oil which reduces wrinkle depth by 45% after 3 months of use. High in antioxidants this powerful eye cream helps the skin maintain optimum hydration, reduces the depth of existing wrinkles and helps promote a more youthful appearance.

2. Makeup Remover

Coconut oil is anti-bacterial, anti-yeast, and also works as a great first-aid cream. Because of its detergent effect, it works well as a makeup remover. Rub coconut oil gently onto the upper & lower eye lids in a circular motion. Once your makeup has been sufficiently melted away, wipe the eye area with a warm cotton pad and continue with your facial cleanser. The coconut oil hydrates your skin and as a bonus will not sting or irritate your eyes.

3. Soothes Dry Skin

4. Lip Balm

Regardless of what season it is we all experience chapped lips. Not all lip balms are created equal and some include potentially toxic ingredients. The healing properties of coconut oil helps to nourish the lips, provides a touch of sun protection, and most importantly it is safe to consume. We also recommend Pure Fiji’s Lip Balm.

5. Natural Deodorant

Coconut oil’s natural antibacterial properties help to keep body odour at bay. It is an excellent deodorant on its own, or when combined into a paste with baking soda and essential oils.

6. Wound Ointment

Coconut oil has been used for thousands of years to speed healing of rashes, burns, and open wounds due to its antibacterial properties. Since coconut oil promotes collagen production, it can help repair skin cells, meaning our cuts and rashes will heal faster.

7. Reduce Cellulite

8. Sunburn Remedy

Coconut oil is an all -natural sunscreen with a SPF 4 and promotes healing while soothing pain. Gently apply coconut oil into the affected areas.

9. DIY Insect repellent

Mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with a couple of drops of peppermint, rosemary, and tea tree oil to repel flies, mosquitos, gnats, and bees. Alternatively use Pure Fiji Dilo Rescue Body Spray on the bite right away after the bite/sting and as needed after that – make sure skin is clean before spraying. This spray is effective on bites/stings because of the dilo oil which helps to enhance the skin’s own repair mechanism, soothe pain and irritation, and promote the growth of healthy skin.

10. Stretch Mark Reducer

Stretch marks are typically visible in the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, thighs, upper arms and even around your knees when the skin is stretched during pregnancy, weight gain and body building. Coconut will help to fade dark discoloration and redness plus it hydrates the skin and allows it heal more quickly.

Remember that not all coconut oils are created equally. Choose organic and those described as “cold pressed” & “virgin” like Pure Fiji’s line of skin, bath and body products. Coconut virgin oil is extracted within a few hours of harvesting the coconut, maintaining its naturally high nutrient content of vitamins A.B.C. and E. as well as antioxidants. To preserve the quality of your coconut oil place it in a cool, dark place. Like other saturated fats, it will solidify when at room temperature and liquefies when heated. When using the above DIY remedies always perform a small patch test.
